| Tory is an avid climber who loves to think about climbing as yoga, just more vertical ! Hailing from a climbing family, Tory discovered one of her dad's yoga books in her rural mountain home in California, USA when she was just 12 years old ... and has never looked back.
Practising for well over a decade, Tory's classes are inspired by styles such as lyengar, ashtanga, forrest and anusara. Her classes are a perfect way to realign the body with the mind, increase health, mental peace, equanimity, and intellectual / physical clarity. Her classes are for anyone looking for increased flexibility and strength. They are for beginners, non-beginners and anyone wanting to have fun. Poses are held for longer periods of time allowing the body to open and the mind to integrate. A more inward focused practise, deep stretch is perfect for both beginners and advanced students in order to welcome soft openings and mind-body awareness. The aspects of breathing and stillness of mind drew her in, helping with her climbing and instilling a new inner calm that she had only ever felt on the rock.
A move to Vancouver, BC followed where she started practicing yoga with Anusara, Ashtanga, Iyengar and Hatha teachers. After her teacher training in Akhanda (holistic) Hatha Yoga in Rishikesh, India, Rachael furthered her passion with the discovery of the gentle style of self-enquiry/mindful yoga. It is a combination of this Vedantic and mindful practice that Rachael incorporates into her classes, encouraging subtle awareness and a connection to the physical, energetic and mental systems by "working-in" rather than working-out. Rachael is deeply grateful to her teachers from New Zealand, Canada and India who have inspired and encouraged her on this path.
